The Weekly Wrap – Gladmans growing team

Welcome along again to this weeks weekly wrap, We had another 2 confirmed sponsors come aboard this week in The Bottle-O & Brendan Dodd Signs. We’ve decided to have a little bit of fun with Bottle-O coming aboard and naming the first turn “Bottle-O Bend” you’ll see the new signs going up around the place. Also our website has had a little freshen up, the new simpler/mobile friendly site is almost complete with a few little tinkers left but the bulk of the revamp is complete. Now to the racing, Wednesday night we had 5 Topcat Summer Classic heats that saw some hotly contested racing culminating in some very slick times.

MONDAY-

Monday was a pearla day, sun beaming and not a cloud in sight. The locals took control by winning 3 of the 12 races on the day.

Committee Member Ted Sladdin got Ahlenny to break through in a deserved win over 545mtr, coming from just off the pace.

Sammy Bonaccurso had 3 dogs entered and managed to snag a double and a third placing. Valletta Chief bounded out of box 6 and saluted in 22.56 then in the very next race Sweeping Strikes made light work of box 4 with an all the way lead in 22.42.

Sweeping Strikes strong 22.42 win.

WEDNESDAY-

Like I said last week, Wednesday nights card is just a taste of things to come, some very strong racing and top class greyhounds going around in the lead up to Cup heats, scheduled for Friday 4 December.

The 5 Topcat Summer Classic heats provided some very competitive racing.

Heat 1 the Doctor kennels, saluted with the big boy Dr Don in 25.40 Results

Heat 2 went to the Champagne Ptn, greyhound – Vic for short, in 25.50 Results

Heat 3 was taken out by the ultra consistent Gotta Get Back in The best heat time of 25.26 Results

Heat 4 went to the K9 Racers syndicate’s Deadly Pace in 25.31 (and was very strong late) Results

Heat 5 was almost a triple dead heat, with the judges finding a nose margin to Stagger express lowering the colours of the low flying Allen Terminator in 25.37 Results

The almost triple dead heat

Race 3 on the card, the mixed 6/7 saw this very exciting son of magic sprite ‘Verdict” continue on his winning ways reeling off sectionals that would see him winning FFA races. Verdict has now had 9 starts for 4 wins, a second and 2 thirds and it seems he’s starting to put it all together. Out of the same race the classicly named “Sausage Sizzle” was terribly unlucky, very green, bombed the start, wanted to run about but once he balanced up in the straight he home flew late for second.

Verdict wins again but Sausage Sizzle unlucky

“He’s got the makings of my first city winner”

Gladmans growing team

Scarsdale trainer Rohan Gladman hasn’t been training all that long, but in the short time he has, he’s won his fair share of races. Gladman coming from a harness background took to greyhound training in 2013 and hasn’t looked back, with an average winning strike rate of 38.25% in the last 6 months you know when he takes a dog to the races he means business.

Rosie Rocks being the flag bearer of the growing kennel has a record of 17 starts for 7 wins 4 second and 2 thirds. She has an enormous amount of box speed that see’s her lead almost any field she been in and slowly but surely she is getting stronger and finishing off her races. Rosie hasn’t always been a straight forward dog to train with a stopper bone injury that kept her sidelined for 3 months, but with a lot of nursing and treatment she has come back stronger than ever.

Litter brother Calahan Rocks, a big 35kg dog has taken a little more to mature. Now having his 4th start it seems the penny is starting to drop and he is putting it together. His all the way maiden win at Geelong where he was still quite green and took a while to balance up in the straight but once he did he looked very strong.

Speaking to Rohan he said “I’m going to trial him at The Meadows, I think he’s got the makings of my first city winner”. He went on to say “He’s one of the hardest dogs I’ve had to get fit, he’s very lazy in the runs”.

The Gladman Kennels over the 3 months have been completely revamped with all brand new kennels, runs and day yards. That will take his team from 4 to 12. Lets hope he can keep that winning strike rate up.

THE LOCALS-

The locals had a cracker week winning 12 races with a stack a placings.

The title for trainer of the week was a triple dead heat this week. Sammy Bonnaccurso, Rohan Gladman and Team Brennan.

Sam had a double on Monday at Ballarat with Valletta Chief and Sweeping strikes.

Rohan had the litter mates, Rosie Rocks win her heat at Geelong on Thursday and Calahan Rocks win his maiden at Geelong also on Tuesday.

Team Brennan had a double on Sunday at Healsville, Stefanovic in 19.58 and Weeping Lass in 16.69 and Pink Martini 2nd in the same race.

Other winners for the local lads.
Mabuti Girl for Normy Wynd at Warrnambool in 25.51, Baroness Tiffie for our President at Bendigo in 28.61, The king (kosmik King) flew at Bendigo also in 24.07 for Digger Bridges. Ted Sladdin got Ahlenny to win his much deserved maiden at Ballarat over the 545 in 31.54, Ian Robinson had Cosmic George win at Bendigo on Wednesday in 24.19 and Gary Hansen had Call Me Swift bolt in at Bendigo also in 23.95.

A good result for the Ballarat Greyhound Racing Club Committee overall with 3 winners amongst them all.
