WEDNESDAY-

Wednesday nights card was a ripper. We had 8 Vic Breeders maiden heats which always produce something special to follow and it did just that. Also we had the final of the Topcat Summer Classic and wasn’t it a great race with Dr Don Saluting in fine fashion, cementing his spot in next weeks cup heats. The mixed 4/5 was also used as a pre- cup heat trail for one of the local hopes Rosie Rocks. The short priced Aston Bolero was the bench mark after winning his last 5 on the trot, Rosie lead Aston to the first peg but then he took over mid race and quickly put a couple of lengths on the field but in the final stages Rosie rallied to pin the margin back to half a length and guarantee her spot in next weeks heats.

Local cup hopefuls

Its been a very lean period for locals and our beloved cup, its been 30 years since  a local has trained a winner when the mighty Trisun saluted in 1985, many greats have tried including Exclusion, Vapour Whirl, Pete’s Conquest and Bombastic Blade but just couldn’t get across the line.

I’ve done my very best to gather up all the local hopes for next weeks heats.

Alf King is looking at entering Mahogany Sapphire.

Neville Vincent is entering the highly talented Six Green thumbs.

John Higgins is going to have Who’s that Chap going around.

Rohan Gladman is definitely entering Rosie Rocks after Wednesday nights top effort.

Gary Hansen will have Call Me Hank representing the kennel

Team Brennan look like entering Due Process

Daryl Weightman will assess Shazzle’s Boy after his run at Geelong

Joe Borg has a big team for his assault on the cup heats, Lee Brilliance, Stompin, Ballerino and Agent Jack are his hopefuls.

That will be 11 local possibilities, lets hope we get a few through to the final and break this 30 year drought.

We will have the 2015 Group 2 Ballarat Cup displayed in the glass cabinet near the entrance if you would to have a look.
