The Thursday Wrap – Collins Cutting Edge

WELCOME TO THE THURSDAY WRAP

Welcome along again to our weekly racing wrap and with the weather warming up so is the racing. This weeks racing saw our heats of the Great chase series on Monday and 2 ripping finals and the Damsels dash on the Wednesday night.

MONDAY- Great Chase Heats

Mondays racing was our turn to put on The Great Chase heats. Five heats of evenly graded dogs were run and won.
Heat 1 Was taken out by Prancing Magic, a new comer to the Xerri kennel, in a speedy 25.20

Heat 2 Went to the Ultra consistent Louisiana Lil in 25.42

Heat 3 Went to the the Sharp kennel again in Smokster in 25.33

Heat 4 George Mist for Marcus Lloyd in 25.54

Heat 5 The last of the heats went to very impressive Lee Brilliance in a airborne 25.08, thank you very much!

The last of the heats was the best of the 5 with the Borg trained, Lee Brilliance doing it at both ends. 6.55 early to lead easily and very strong through the line. Prancing magic has plenty of upside only having his 3rd start back from 3 months off and a proven performer at city class level.

In other races on the day the locally trained Kosmic King bought the house down saluting in the last of the day, An almighty roar came from the stand as the Bridges trained dog took the lead coming into the home straight to win the 390 mtr event. Onya Digger!

WEDNESDAY-

Wednesday nights racing was a cracker, with the maiden 390 mtr heats last week and the two 545mtr heats last week we were in for a treat with two great finals.
The 390mtr maiden was a very competitive affair. The Borg trained reserve, Hollywood Jones gained a start with a few scratchings and defiantly utilised his start by rocketing to the front early in the race before being swallowed up late. Sir Ollie the eventual winner, lobbed into what was a race winning position on the outside of Hollywood Jones eventually proving to strong. Run of the race went to Shelby’s Magic, she turned sideways early and spotted the leaders at least 6L rounding the home turn to power home to run 3rd. Be sure to keep an eye on her moving forward.

The feature event of the night was the 545mtr final. With a crack field assembled after last weeks heats it was always going to be a hot race.
Agent Jack was the odds on fav to win the race, but didn’t get it all his own way. The Peter Franklin trained Mojito Mayhem gave plenty of cheek after a great run last week, taking the lead off the hot pot favourite and leading down the back and into the straight before being over-powered by the classy Agent Jack.

Borg said after the race “Its been a long road getting jack back on track, he was very dog sick 6-8 weeks internally but he seems to be back to himself now. Borg also went on to say he is a better “big track” dog and will be gearing him towards the Sale cup.

Collins Cutting Edge

This very exciting son of Barcia Bale won his heat of the Great Chase at the Meadows on Wednesday in impressive style, taking his record 6 starts for 6 wins.

The Geoff Collins trained Cutting edge gave nothing else a chance bounding straight to the front recording a 5.05 first split from box 7, before going on to win by a big space in 29.74 BON (by a long way)

Speaking to Geoff about the greyhound today he said “He is a very good dog, potentially one of the best ones we’ve had. “We considered taking him to the Vic Peters in Sydney but decided to take him through his grades and learn a little more before putting him in the elite grade”. “He’s a little hit and miss at box rise and needs those first couple of steps to muster” Exciting times ahead for the 100% Ballarat bred, reared and broken in dog and we will keep in touch with Geoff for updates.
